Room parents serve as a link between the teacher, the PTO, and the other parents in your child’s classroom. Here is an idea of what a room parent does:
a. Helps the teacher by coordinating in-class volunteers to help with class functions (ie/ Halloween parties, Christmas parties, field trips, special projects etc)
b. Coordinates with parents to have items sent in for class functions (ie/ supply needs, food, paper goods, special project materials, etc) sent in for class functions.
c. Pass on information from HUG (school wide volunteer program) and from PTO via e-mail or phone calls (ie/ volunteers for Fall Festival, Bingo/Raffle Night, Field Day, Earth Day, Community Yard Sale
d. Works with other room parents in the same grade to coordinate raffle basket theme, and pass on information to other classroom parents to get it filled with appropriate items.
Here is your first TO DO LIST:
1. Contact your class’s teacher(s) and introduce yourself. We have several new teachers this year, so they may need to know exactly how you are there to help them. Also, let them know what the best way is to contact you…..PTO will provide them with the same contact information that you provided us when you signed up. Ask them to provide you with a class list so that you can ensure a complete contact list, and no one is left out. (you should check with them periodically to see if there are new students, or if any students have left).
2. Make initial contact with the rest of the parents in your child’s classroom. We suggest that you introduce yourself in a short letter that is sent home with the children (you will receive a sample that you may choose to use). This letter should go out within the first couple of weeks of school. It’s fine to ask the parents to send you their e-mail address….just make sure that if you DO NOT have a working e-mail address for a student that you are sending correspondence home in their Tuesday Folder.
Note: PTO will provide copy codes to anyone who chooses to copy at school. E-mail Katie Taylor at [email protected].
** The "Contact Information" tab is not active yet - you will be receiving a password shortly that will allow you access to the contact information for all Room Parents.
